Does being a creator in 2025 actually suck?
Well, I don’t know about you but I have felt quite overwhelmed the last few weeks : between the AI taking over the world (or is it?), the never-ending flows of reels, and the pressure to do more everyday (”how to generate a 10000 leads!” “how to create MORE content” “how to be more productive with AI!”) , despite their promises, it all lead to more paralysis that I ever felt in my life.
So this week I have a proposition to make : let’s rethink and reframe this weird world we are living in so we can actually get back to what matters the most : building and creating and enjoying life and connecting to the people we love (well it is not going to be solved in one email, but slowly slowly but surely!)
if there is one thing I have learnt from therapy is that the first step to healing is always accepting the things we can’t change! We can’t change the AI revolution machine, nor the pressure of social media, so what CAN WE change?
RECLAIM YOUR ATTENTION
it is easy to get caught up into this never-ending flow of content, and maybe the first step is to become more mindful about our consumption of everything. I noticed that scrolling made me feel all sorts of feelings that I did NOT agree with, and I don’t know why I should still give so much time to something that makes me feel like crap. If it was a relationship, that would clearly be listed as an abusive one, the red flags are all there! Including that I did not consent to being fed this much crap everyday. (remember the time the content you had one your feed was actually people you followed and chose?) it is easier said than done, but if you can, try to at least be mindful during your scrolling : why did you take your phone? what is this content makes you feel? did you agree to see this? did it actually make you feel better? Am I reacting to everything? Is this worth my time?
FOCUS ON ONE THING
I feel like with the pressure of creating MORE, I have been all over the place, having too many things started that I am not able to humanly focus on (”oh hey but YOU CAN BUILD YOUR AI AVATAR NOW SO YOU CAN DO EVEN MORE WORK”) Spoiler alert : you don’t need to take up more projects that you are going to barely make. Let alone the mental loads of having so much going on. (hello burn out! well it’s time to take my phone and doom scroll to relax! oh wait..) What is the ONE project that you really really want to work on? Not all the things you think you have to do because some influencer on the internet tells you this is the miracle way to 50 millions dollars. Pick ONE THING. I know this means sacrificing some other stuff that you think is important, and this is the tough part, but stay with me…
…DO THIS THING WITH ALL YOUR LOVE
The good news is, with the AI slops everywhere, and most people focusing on quantity (which is a game we can’t win anyway, let;s accept that) I feel the wind is actually changing and a lot of people are craving honesty and something that is created with love, with a sensitive approach, with passion, with patience. All these qualities the world really needs at the moment. And the best news is, because you are not bending your back to please an algorithm, it means you don’t care about numbers anymore : voila you are free! And I promise you will get so much more fullfiled and happy at the end of the day creating something you actually care about, instead of forcing yourself to fit in a box that was never designed for you anyway
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE
Between the scrolling other people’s life and Chatgpt removing the soul of everything I tend to give it, it is easy to lean into the convenience of just following the flow and accepting what an AI is going to spit back at you. Yes it has some great applications, but it was NEVER SUPPOSED TO REPLACE WHAT YOU LOVE DOING. Yes Chatgpt can handle my administrative emails, but I noticed when I used it to write for me, it has made me so disconnected from actually my thought, my feelings, my experience. I always loved writing, why should I give it to an emotionless AI? If you have replaced some task YOU LOVED with AI, it is time to connect back to doing it. If you have stopped creating some art because you wanted to fit social media, why not take an evening to make just that?
ACCEPT IMPERFECTION
Aaaand that gets me to the last point for today : That would be so easy for me to paste this in Chatgpt or Claude to make it “better”. But what is the cost of better? If that means losing its soul in the process then why should we do this to ourselves? We were never meant to be perfect, or to create something that was perfect. I always though perfection was boring, I want to see the soul, the passion, the spark, the humanity, this is what connects us. Whatever you want to create, some art, a business, it all has to be created from our experience, to connect to other humans beings. And it is our imperfect self that connects us to others, and helps us relate to each others.
STAY TRUE TO YOUR VALUES
Knowing your core values is such a great way to find (and keep!) your alignment : if you value productivity, and efficiency, then yes using AI makes so much sense. If you value connection, experimentation, then not so much anymore! Don’t hesitate to take the time to think about your core values and see if they actually align with your daily life. Also, it is great to realize that we are being fed content by people with different values than us, and understanding that helps us get more distance, acceptation and event empathy toward them :) “they value productivity and I value quality, I understand what they say, but that does not align with the way I need to work and create to be happy so I am not going to react and be influenced by what they say. It does not mean they are wrong, just that we are different” (can you imagine a world where comments on social medias look like this? :D)
I could write so much more about this, I think there are great opportunities in the world we are living in, as long as we stay aligned, and true to ourselves and our values. And this is the most difficult part but also the most beautiful and rewarding way 🙂
Have a fantastic and most imperfect week everyone 🙂
